Progressive Web Apps for Small Business

A Progressive Web App can give a small business an installable, app-like experience without automatically taking on the cost and complexity of separate native apps.

What is a PWA?

A Progressive Web App is a website enhanced with capabilities that can make it feel more like an app. Depending on the browser and device, users may be able to install it, launch it from their home screen, and use cached functionality when connectivity is limited.

When does a PWA make sense?

A PWA is worth considering when customers or staff need the same focused experience repeatedly. Examples include client portals, calculators, guided programs, internal tools, ordering workflows, dashboards, and lightweight product experiences.

What a PWA does not magically solve

A PWA does not fix an unclear product idea, broken workflow, weak security model, or poor user experience. Installation behavior and device capabilities also vary by browser and platform. The right approach starts with the job the app needs to accomplish.

PWA vs. native app

Native apps can make sense when a product depends heavily on platform-specific capabilities or requires the deepest possible integration with a device. A PWA can be a strong alternative when broad reach, simpler deployment, and a focused experience matter more.

Start with the workflow

Before building anything, define the user, the recurring problem, the minimum useful workflow, the data involved, and the success metric. Then decide whether a PWA, existing software, automation, or another approach fits.
